Using the NLN Materials - A Practical Guide
A new guide is now available online to help tutors around the UK make the best use of the e-learning materials offered free through the National Learning Network programme. Using the NLN Materials - a Practical Guide is now available online. The guide is presented in the same format as the e-learning materials and by working through it, tutors will be able to familiarise themselves with how NLN materials work. It starts off with an introduction to the NLN materials - how they work, subject areas covered and levels, and how you can get hold of them.
Once tutors are familiar with the materials, they can start deciding how best to use them by analysing their current situation and attitudes towards e-learning with an Analysis Tool. The tool is a quick way to examine the tutor's own teaching style as well as the learning styles of their students to find the best fit with NLN materials and how they might work in different classroom situations.

Thefts of CISCO Equipment
Two Universities have recently been the victims of theft of Cisco equipment - University of Bristol and University of Teesside. In the case of Teesside, the thieves specifically targeted Cisco blades from a 6509 and a 4006 chassis. It may be well worth your while in reviewing your security especially those colleges that are Cisco Networking Academies. To quote Paul Lambert, Director of ICT Systems at Teesside: "Given that the theft appears to be targeted at specific equipment and seems unlikely to be an opportunist at work I would urge you all to be on your guard. If anyone offers you a still warm 6500 supervisor engine let me know!"
(Thanks to Gareth Davies, Manager JISC RSC Northern for this item).
