Graeme Obree to open e-Olympics in the Athens of the North

World record cycling champion, Scotland’s own Graeme Obree will launch the RSC e-Olympics in Edinburgh on 23rd September. Famous for holding the coveted World Hour Record, alongside such names as Chris Boardman, Eddie Merckx, and Francesco Moser, Graeme put Scotland firmly on the international map of cycling. As a former ‘real’ Olympics athlete, Graeme will pull the trigger of the starter’s gun at the e-Olympics.

Graeme Obree famously built his first record-setting bike in his garage from, among other things, a piece of a washing machine and a seatpost from an old BMX. Participants in the e-Olympics may not be using quite such rare items for preparing their online learning materials, but ingenuity is certainly required. A fine bank of resources has been coordinated by the Regional Support Centre for the e-Olympics and a comprehensive programme devised to help you use or develop your own learning materials in the most effective way. If you haven’t yet reserved your place, please book online without delay at www.e-olympics.org.uk.

This event is supported by SFEFC’s eMerge staff development programme. Some financial support to attend may be available, though numbers may be limited. More information online, or through calling the RSC at 0131 315 7674.

Professional body considered for college staff

Staff in Scotland's 46 colleges are to be asked if a professional representative body could help uphold occupational standards in the sector and take a strategic approach to training and development. A consultation will ask staff to consider if a professional body would be an effective way of maintaining and enhancing the quality of teaching and learning in Scotland's colleges. Both the consultation paper and online questionnaire may be accessed at: http://www.scotland.gov.uk/consultations.

The deadline for the consultation is Friday November 26.
