The first meeting of the Scottish Federated Access Management Forum (or McShib, for short) was a user driven gathering of Shibboleth implementers in Scotland who had decided to meet together to share hints, tips, successes, pitfalls and to learn from each others experiences.
Some individuals participating in the event had a background in IT; others worked in information (library) services. Anyone with a professional interest in federated access management was welcome to attend the forum.
Nicole Harris, JISC program manager responsible for the roll-out of federated access management within the UK, explained what the UK Access Management Federation is, how to join it and what it is able to do for colleges and universities in the UK.
Practical presentations were given on how to deploy and configure a Shibboleth Identity Provider and other presentations were made by persons whose institutions have already deployed Shibboleth. As with all forums hosted by the Regional Support Centre, time was set aside for informal discussions and problem solving.
