You will need to identify possible interviewees by getting in touch with relevant organisations, by letter, telephone or personal visit. You will need to establish that the individual is willing to be interviewed and arrange a time and place for the interview. Assume that your interviewee’s time is precious and not to be wasted. Even if you do not intend to use a questionnaire, you will need to prepare and take along to the interview a checklist of points on which you wish information. This helps to concentrate your attention on the issue in hand and ensures that you do not miss any points. You should leave the interview with some record of what you found out. It is desirable but not essential to use a tape recorder for interviews To ensure a good interview you must: BE PREPARED > Know your topic > Have your questions written down in order > Have a pad and pencil or tape recorder for the answers BE POLITE > At the start of the interview thank the interviewee for giving you some of their time > At the end of the interview say thank you BE CLEAR > Speak slowly > Make your questions brief > Listen to the answers Presenting your findings You have to choose between formal and informal presentation. Usually a formal presentation would take the form of a written report, while an informal one would be a verbal report, perhaps using audio-visual techniques. Report Layout The general principles of good report-writing are ad follows: Identification - the report should have an indicative title. Terms of reference - the opening paragraph of the report should explain the circumstances leading to the making of the investigation. The subject matter - each section (which will often only consist of a single paragraph) must deal with one point only sections should be headed and numbered sections must be presented in a logical manner the opening section should consist of an introduction explaining the background to the material, facts already known or outlining any relevant history. This section would cover Outcome 1. Recommendations - these should be given if appropriate Conclusion Appendices - these appear at the end of the report and should be numbered and referred to in the text. They may show statistical evidence gathered during the investigation, illustrations, maps etc. The documents contained in the ‘Investigations Pack’ should also be included in this section. The report should be dated and signed. Remember!! Make sure you are prepared before you start your investigation, know what questions and information you need before you start to write anything. 5—Ђ›ЄŸ Ї m † d r ДПРPQ\]ћѕћѕћѕћћћщумћ *B*phџ *OJQJ *5B*CJ \phџ 5OJQJOJQJ 56AB‹Œ&'opq–—Уjš›ѕM ž Ÿ Ы I f §§ћћћћћћћћћѕѕѕѕѕѕѕѕѕѕѕѕѕѕѕѕ$If]§f g h i j k l m † ‡ Ф Х c d r s Б В ё ђ ЈІІІІІІЄІІІІІЄІІІІІV$$If–lжж”џо J!
