"My project involves producing learning materials for a Higher National unit entitled Animals in Society."

"I am an instructor in Animal Care in the sector of Rural and Recreation Studies at Aberdeen College. My project involves producing learning materials for a Higher National unit entitled 'Animals in Society'. In particular I am focussing on the various roles/uses of animals in society and the benefits of animals to humans.

The whole unit is beyond the scope of the project but I am providing a plan for the whole unit in the hope that it can be completed in the future. I will not be developing assessment material but will include a self-assessment quiz at the end of each section to enable users to monitor their own progress.

Problems - My initial set-back was that I could not receive external e-mails so it took a while to get on to smartgroup. I have not used smartgroups before and although it seems fairly straight-forward I feel I need more time to explore the various things that it does. I have enjoyed the planning process but have found it difficult to plan everything without knowing whether I'll be able to achieve it in terms of available software and my own skills. I am therefore concerned that I may have to have a major re-think quite late on and I am anxious to avoid that. My other niggling worry is that I feel I don't understand the IT vocabulary."
