"I decided to apply for this particular course because I felt that IT is becoming an increasing part of our education system. Students are using technology more and more to use for investigation purposes, record information, present assignments etc.
Having struggled in the past with sophisticated authoring tools such as Director and Authorware, I was interested in trying to work with something, which was simpler to use, and which might give ordinary lecturers the chance to develop basic learning materials for themselves quickly. The Map2Learn project offered this, and has certainly lived up to my expectations.
My work focuses on producing material for use in teaching Advertising, specifically the structure and functioning of the Advertising Agency. I would intend to use this in my HND Communication classes, and possibly also in my BA Degree classes with some modification, but the map is 'generic' in the sense that it could also be applicable to Business Studies or Media Studies classes.
My aim is to take the student through the structure and function of the agency, using a mix of text, statistics, images and weblinks, and to link this to a range of both formative and summative assessment material (delivered, as far as possible, on-line). Like most projects, mine started out being far too ambitious in its scope, and I've had to prune it down considerably to get to this stage. I'm aware that what I'm going to be able to produce will not be the 'all singing/all-dancing' multimedia interactive extravaganza that I might have hoped for, but I'm optimistic that it will provide the basis for a deliverable piece of learning, and that it will be enough to show others what they too can do relatively easily in their own area."
