RSC Forums are open to participants from Scottish Further and Higher Education. The RSC does not require potential participants to conform to any particular job role or profile. It's simply enough to want to extend your knowledge of a subject, whether that be learning space design, inclusion, Web 2.0 or any of our other topic areas. (See complete list)
RSC Forums run for the benefit of the community and are driven by the technology-related issues that the community most wants to explore. They are self-help occasions, where expertise is shared within the members of the group. Expert or commercial speakers may be invited to contribute if forum members require. Attendance is mostly free, or in some cases the RSC will levy a very small charge to cover catering costs.
Those with links to commercial enterprise may not use the Forums (or JISC mail lists) for any kind of unapproved commercial activity. A breach of this rule will incur immediate removal from the list.
If you're interested in being part of a forum that doesn't yet exist please contact us.
The BlackBoard User Group (BUG) forum is a place where you can find out how other institutions are using their BlackBoard VLE. There are usually two BUG meetings per year, or more frequently on demand. Meetings typically include interesting demonstrations and showcases of recent upgrades or configurations from members of the group. They are occasions when you can contribute to and learn about best practice with using BlackBoard, and can engage in open discussion on current issues or problems. At some meetings, Blackboard representatives may be invited along to answer questions and to provide clarification.
Please contact the RSC if you would like to join the Blackboard forum.

It has become apparent that Microsoft SharePoint has become a very popular product within education.
To this end the two Scottish Regional Support Centres propose to establish a SharePoint Forum to enable the sharing of good practice in this area. The forum is likely to be of interest to a range of staff including Information Managers (MIS), Technical Support and those with responsibility for e-learning. The first meeting will be held in Glasgow and the date will be set after we have received expressions of interest.
The Forum will address current developments, implementation and support issues and will be participant-led, in that it is the members who will determine the agenda; the RSC will facilitate the delivery and practical aspects. The Forum is expected to meet between two and three times per year, though again, the exact frequency will be decided by the group itself.
If you are currently using SharePoint or considering implementing it and wish to become involved in the forum, please complete and return the attached.
For the future, there is an opportunity for group members to shape the role and aims of the forum. Subsequent forum meetings will address those issues which are felt to be most pertinent, urgent and useful by group members.
If you are interested in joining the forum please contact the RSC.
The RSC's Technical Forum is aimed at IT staff involved in managing and maintaining their institution's IT services (eg corporate applications, infrastructure and user support). It will provide an opportunity for individuals to share their experiences and issues with other IT professionals from FE and HE organisations in our region.
The inaugural meeting of this forum will take place on 14 December 2007 at the RSC in Edinburgh. Speakers will include Frances Neilson of Janet (formerly UKERNA), who will provide an update on Janet Services, showcasing the newly launched Web and Collaboration services.
