The book Hiroshima by John Hersey remains the
classic account of the city in the direct aftermath of
the dropping of the bomb. First published as a major
article in the New Yorker magazine in 1946, it was
quickly published in book form and has remained in
print ever since despite the harrowing descriptions it
contains.
